HIFU(High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) Treatment

About the process

Sagging skin gives you tired-looking eyes and distorts the contours of your face around the chin and neck. How wonderful would it be if there is a treatment that can put aging skin back in its place! High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) lifts and tightens skin for a non-surgical face lift and neck lift.

High intensity focus ultrasound (HIFU) is a revolutionary alternative to a cosmetic face-lift – without the need of surgery. HIFU lifts and tones the face, neck and eyes resulting in a dramatic yet natural uplift.

With just one treatment, HIFU pushes mature skin to start working hard again and your eyes will look more open, brows more lifted, fine lines softened, and pores reduced.

HIFU is an answer to any of these:

  • Blurred jawline
  • Drooping, especially around the mouth
  • Sagging eyelids
  • Loose neck folds
  • Thin, crepe-y skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minor redness and dryness
  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Large pores

HIFU targets the deep down foundation layer of your skin, the same layer that is addressed in cosmetic surgery. Unlike lasers, which penetrate the skin from the outside to inside, the HIFU procedure bypasses the surface of the skin, and delivers targeted energy specifically into the deep, structural tissues and muscles where collagen thrives. HIFU involves penetrating ultra-sound energy to stimulate collagen production in the deep dermal and sub dermal levels, fascia and the SMAS layer which results in micro injury to that tissue. It results in a ‘selective thermal coagulative zone’ on the subcutaneous layer and SMAS layer improving the skin aging. As the tissue heals, it increases collagen and as the collagen fibres organise and shorten, a tightening effect is seen on the skin.

What is the HIFU Treatment

Ultrasound gel will be applied to cleansed skin. The hand-piece will then be used to deliver ultrasound energy beneath the skin.

HIFU is a non-surgical face and neck treatment that uses ultrasound to actually lift and tone loose or sagging skin without any downtime. It is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin that is addressed in cosmetic surgery without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

The main advantages of HIFU are:

  • You can get right back to your day-there is no downtime required.
  • Collagen production will kick off after only one session, with results appearing over the following months.
  • Your skin will be healthier, stronger, and younger-looking, without any unnatural, drastic changes.
  • The biggest difference of HIFU from other lasers or light is that it is not related to skin colour or is chromophore(colour blind). It can hence show effective rejuvenation results even on dark skin, which was difficult to treat with light based treatment.

Technology involved

HIFU energy creates thermal coagulation on the target layer of skin tissues with no damage on the skin surface. It stimulates collagen synthesis and regeneration, forming new collagen and thus providing long term lifting and tightening effect.

Unlike the general HIFU of treating solid tumour, the HIFU that is used on the skin for rejuvenation purpose has very short exposure duration (milli second). So the energy delivered to the target is also low(below 15J per pulse). As the ultrasonic is emitted in short time, it does not damage the epidermis and upper dermis but is able to target the SMAS layer and deep dermis.

If exposure time(same as pulse duration) gets longer, thermal zone will be created on the skin surface in axial direction. Therefore, when it becomes longer, damages on skin surface is unavoidable. Short exposure time is hence very critical to treat the target more effectively by not hurting epidermis and upper dermis.

Every individual rightfully aspires to look good and fresh in a youthful and natural way.

HIFU does not cause major discomfort. You may feel some discomfort, warmth or heat sensation or even a slight pain that lasts less than a few seconds and only during the pulsation cycle when ultrasound energy is being applied. The discomfort is very brief and a good sign that the collagen building process has begun.

Within our relaxing and nourishing environment, we strive to provide a diverse array of treatments and technologies to give you the most comfortable experience during the procedure. Patients typically leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come!

No two people are the same. So it follows that no treatment plan for facial rejuvenation and skincare will be uniformly the same either.

After the initial consultation, a personalized HIFU treatment plan that is tailored to the individual will be planned.

Possible Consequences/ Precautions

There may be a slight redness for up to a few hours following the treatment, and a small percentage of clients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.

These will disappear within hours. Some patients report feeling a slight prickling or heat under the skin. Cooling is not required. Anaesthetics will be provided to ensure patient comfort as tolerance levels vary, but treatment isn’t unbearably painful.

Recommendation for best results

24 hrs pre and post no alcohol or hot baths. We recommend that you maintain a good diet and an active lifestyle. We will instruct you with a bespoke homecare regime that will ensure maintenance of the results.

Improvements are immediate and progressive too. Your body will continue to produce fresh collagen over one year. After that, you may wish to continue touch-up treatments.

Each treatments takes 30-120 minutes.

No of sessions

Most patients need only one session. Results will appear over 2 to 3 months or even up to 6 months following treatment.

Results will last for

20% of your overall result will be seen immediately with the remaining 80% being seen within 6 months of the treatments the collagen-building process continues.

Patients treated with HIFU still have fresh young collagen after a year’s time following the procedure and can continue for up to another year depending on the condition of the skin.
